Resolution
Resolved, that the 179th Annual Convention of the Episcopal Diocese of Wisconsin encourages every congregation to review the accessibility of its digital communications, including websites, newsletters, livestreams, and social media, so that all people may more fully participate in the life of the Church; and be it further
Resolved, that congregations be encouraged to incorporate reasonable accessibility practices such as captioning video content, providing alternative text for images, using readable color contrast, and maintaining current contact information on parish websites; and be it further
Resolved, that diocesan staff continue to provide resources, training, and examples of best practices to assist congregations in this work as time and resources allow.
Explanation / Rationale
The Church's ministry increasingly extends into digital spaces. Parish websites, livestreams, newsletters, and social media often serve as a first point of contact for newcomers and as an essential connection for homebound members. Improving digital accessibility helps ensure that all people, including those with disabilities, can more fully participate in the life of our congregations. This resolution encourages practical, achievable improvements without creating new mandates or financial obligations.
