Join us for “Joining God’s Joy: Evangelism as Growing into the Triune Life,” a two-day retreat and workshop experience led by renowned Episcopal evangelist, priest, and theologian The Rev. Dr. Tricia Lyons. Drawing from deep theological wisdom, rich storytelling, and years of practice in both classrooms and congregations, Tricia will guide us through a series of interactive, spirit-filled sessions that reimagine evangelism as the joyful act of sharing in God's life.
This event includes:
Dinner and opening worship on Friday evening
Saturday workshops exploring identity, storytelling, and local mission
Optional contemplative prayer and Sunday Eucharist
Whether you’re a lay leader, clergy person, spiritual seeker, or someone curious about how faith meets real life, you’ll leave encouraged, equipped, and rooted in joy.
Who is Tricia Lyons?
Tricia Lyons has taught theology and evangelism at Virginia Theological Seminary since 2004 and serves as Senior Advisor to the Dean for Evangelism Initiatives. She helped shape the Episcopal Church’s “Way of Love,” has authored multiple books on faith formation, and currently leads a national Lilly-funded study on mutual ministry. Also a regenerative farmer and ministry co-founder, Tricia lives what she teaches.

A spiritually grounding session of praise and reflection.
Themes: personal transformation (Bartimaeus, Zacchaeus), identity, and healing.
May include music led by Trinity’s musicians.7:15 PM – Interactive Session #1: Rejoicing & Identity
Engaging group discussion and storytelling.
Tone: joyful, playful, but theologically substantive.
Focus: celebrating what God has done in our lives and in the church.8:15 PM – Closing Blessing or Fellowship

Saturday, September 6 – Workshop Day
9:30 AM – Morning Prayer
A simple liturgy to open the day with prayer and intention.10:00 AM – Session #2: Evangelism & Embodied Practice
Teaching session followed by interactive reflection or small group activity.11:15 AM – Session #3: Storytelling & The Work of Healing
Exploring evangelism through story, vulnerability, and witness.
May include testimonies or spiritual exercises.12:30 PM – Lunch Break
1:30 PM – Session #4: Local Practice & Missional Imagination
How to apply the workshop themes in parish settings.
