Maji ya Bomba: A Milestone for Newala

An update from our Companion Diocese of Newala is below, written by Members of the Companion Diocese of Newala Committee:

In Newala, on Saturday July 19,2025 the Kindergarden Block of  St. Mary’s Pre and Primary School was opened.  Along with the many local officials were Bp. Matt and wife Leslie of Wisconsin. Also present was  Fr. Oswald Bwecha formerly of Christ Church WFB, WI!  Sr. Debora CMM who was very instrumental in the construction of the whole school project was the MC.

Earlier on July 13 Sr. Debora wrote “ The Nursery School is real wonderful and has modern class rooms. Always I need to thank you all for our precious gift from the Lovely People of the Diocese of Milwaukee and the New Diocese of Wisconsin and for Bp. Matt and his wife Leslie to visit us.

Now our Standard 7 already finished their national exams.  So next month is time for Standard 4 assessment exams and in November will be time for Standard 2 exams. Now after open school tomorrow, we will be very busy till the close of school in December.”

Sr. Debora seemed especially proud of the restroom facilities.  They have running water, polymer doors and porcelain commodes.  “Magi ya bomba” ..water from pipes is a miracle.  Anyone who does not understand this feeling is not familiar with the Third World ! 

After the many speeches all went to the tree planting ceremony and the vast array of food!
