Sparta Ice Cream Social
St. John’s Sparta
On August 23, 2025, St. John’s hosted a lively Farmer’s Market and Ice Cream Social Fundraiser. Parishioners and neighbors gathered to enjoy sweet treats, pick up fresh vegetables, and support the life of the church. The day was filled with laughter, community spirit, and plenty of success—ice cream sold quickly, and the tables of produce were nearly emptied by the end of the event.
One special highlight: a young helper stole the show. Kathleen Charles’s 10-year-old grandson came all the way from Rochester to lend a hand, delighting everyone with his enthusiasm and earning the title of “star of the day.”
These photos capture the joy of fellowship, family, and faithful community at work in Sparta.

This past Sunday, the congregation gathered for a special “Barefoot Sunday” service. Worshippers came together to celebrate young leaders, creation, and community in a relaxed, joy-filled setting. We can officially confirm: the Gospel still works regardless of footwear.

The recent Benefice Picnic was a joyful gathering of friends and neighbors, filled with food, laughter, and fellowship. Many hands helped make the day possible, from preparing dishes to setting up and offering warm hospitality. It was a wonderful celebration of community and the Spirit at work among us. Plans are already underway to make next year’s picnic even more fun! The Chakalaka Bean Sauce Recipe has been much traded and if you would like it, please reach out at info@diowis.org to be sent it!
